6 Simple Ways to Boost Your Brain Power

Your brain is the command center of your existence. The better it works, the more likely you will be successful in this world. Listed below are six easy ways for you to boost the power of your brain and gain more control over your life and endeavors. Keep in mind that none of these methods will have much of an effect unless they are done on a regular basis.

1- Eat Healthy Foods

You are what you eat, and your food consumption has a direct effect on the performance of your “computer”. Certain foods help it function better than others. Leafy greens, such as spinach, are a great place to start because they have iron, calcium, and vitamins E and K, all of which help sharpen your brain’s performance.

Certain foods can be detrimental to your brain, such as candy and other items that contain high amounts of processed sugars. This doesn’t mean you have to avoid these treats completely. The all-things-in-moderation rule holds true here. They simply cannot become the backbone of your diet if you want brain power.

2- Get Plenty of Rest

Despite all of the analogies between brains and computers, there will always be one main difference separating the two: brains need nightly rest, and computers do not. Yes, there are stories (true and myth) of men and women of great who lived off scant hours of sleep while creating greatness. However, these tales are either unverifiable or are the exception to the rule that the human brain needs ample sleep.

Experts say that people need at least six hours per night in order for their brain to function properly. Less than this, you risk the negative consequences of sleep deprivation, from decreased motor-reflex control to depression.

3- Brain Games

All brains like a puzzle in some form or another. It’s a natural phenomenon we all share called curiosity, and it is directly related to our need to solve problems. Every time your brain engages in problem solving, it’s getting a workout, just like a muscle, and afterwards, it can function at a higher level.

Any type of problem-solving games is helpful. If you like words, you can try riddles, crosswords, or sudoku puzzles. For those looking for wordless games, there are plenty of puzzles and riddles based on forms and pictures to challenge your mind.

4- Physical Activity

Some may say that physical activity takes no brains. However, this is not true. All physical activity, even running, requires an immense amount of brain work from your gray matter. This is especially true if you are engaged in sports.

Getting physical also imparts the brain with enhanced health and blood flow from a cardiovascular system getting a proper workout. This, in turn, leads to a properly oxygenated and functioning brain.

5- Learn Something New

There’s nothing like new learning when it comes to increasing brain power. Learning is what makes your gray matter grow and work more efficiently, and the good thing is you can learn new things almost anywhere.

If you have time, take some courses or pursue a degree in a subject you love. If time is not something you have a lot of, then try online learning. Instruction over the internet has evolved considerably and is considered to be on par with face-to-face learning.

6- Take Supplements

No pill exists that will increase your brain power just like that. However, there are supplements and vitamins that are known to work well in conjunction with your other efforts at boosting brain power. Fish oil is one of them.

Fish oil supplements contain omega fatty acids, which work wonders for the brain. Research shows that they can help in treating a variety of different mental disorders, from schizophrenia to dementia. Taking them or another supplement, like ginkgo biloba, can also help prevent the onset of these terrible mental illnesses.

These are only a few of the many ways to tickle your melon in order to get your brain power higher. Don’t worry, you don’t have to do all six to experience a brain boost. However, the more you do, the faster and higher your boost will be.
